About the Author
Robert E. Hall received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He taught at Berkeley and at MIT before going to Stanford. Along with his research and teaching interests, Professor Hall is chairman of the Business Cycles Dating Committee of the National Bureau for Economic Research, which maintains the official chronology of the U.S. business cycle.

David H. Papell is the Joel W. Sailors Professor of Economics at the University of Houston, where he teaches intermediate macroeconomics as well as graduate courses in macroeconomics and international economics.  He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. from Columbia University, and previously taught at the University of Florida.

His impoverished childhood in Newport News, Virginia, seemed destined to lead him nowhere. His mother was 15 when he was born, his biological father was incarcerated for most of Allen's childhood, his de facto father was a small-time drug dealer, and many of Allen's peers succumbed to street violence--eight were shot in one summer alone. But Iverson's incredible physical gifts and mental toughness pulled him through; he was named the NBA's most valuable player in 2000. This book on Allen Iverson just came far too soon.Allen Iverson is my favorite current NBA player partially b/c he shakes up the status quo -- not necessarily because he wants to make that his objective, but quite poetically, he's doing it just by being true to who he is.This book is a tale about a kid from the wrong side of the tracks, that basically struck it rich but admirably remains "the same" as opposed to "assimilating" just to make his economic & financial counterparts feel comfortable around him.No true criticism of Larry Platt's writing style. If he wanted to go deep into Allen Iverson's undocumented youth and youth exploits, that's fine too.Bottom line is this book, while it has several defining moments, just isn't a compelling enough read because it was written still TOO SOON.A.I., love him or hate him, totally revolutionized the NBA and the image it projected to Middle America.I'd love to read a book about his life when he's 50, 60 or 85.I'm sure he'll be on "60 Minutes" doing a "My Life & times" segment.Whoever writes the book about his life just before that interview will surely have a No. #1 best-seller.

its the best selling book about allen iverson out there. im a die hard iverson fan so just the fact that this book was written was a positive thing for me. tells the story of his struggle, and the struggle of his friends and associates growing up. he's had a hard past but still entertained millions with his talents. the guy is a legend. As a veteran educator using technology on a regular basis, this book made me question the use of technology tools in the classroom in a meaningful way. We must think about the learning goals first, then add the technology tools to engage, ehnhance, and extend learning. Each of these topics is fully explained in this book and supported by research and ISTE standards. I couldn't stop reading! I found myself highlighting, bookmarking, and wanting to share what I was learning with other educators. It's packed with research backed strategies, ideas, and resources. The format of each chapter is easy to read and to digest. "Take aways" summarize each chapter. The Triple E Framework provides educators with a simple, effective, and efficient way to evaluate the technology tools they are using with students. This book is a "must read" for any educator using technology in the classroom. Don't miss this one!

This is a must read for any teacher using technology. I've too often had that "so what" moment after teaching a lesson incorporating technology. This book brought into focus how to address those moments, how to think about technology as a tool, and the importance of using the right technology at the right time.It is certainly not enough to engage students because, as we know, engagement can be short-lived, even with technology. Technology must take our students deeper and further. My own internal rubric will forever now include engage, enhance and extend.
