Not a bad text, but some of the information in this field is much more highly debated than what this text gives the impression of. In fact my professor for the class that I used this book in spent more time correcting information in the book he felt was inaccurate, misleading, or in need of further citations. I have held onto it as a reference book but I do think there are other texts out there that cover their research bases more fully and describe the information in a more impartial-sounding way.
One of my favorite textbooks from college... very glad I purchased. I reference it for all kinds of drug trivia in conversation. the history of drug development and the legal changes in illicit drugs is very interesting and detailed. quick reference section in the back is great!
I ordered this textbook for my class. My school bookstore wanted $130.00 for a used one. Buying this book saved me $100.00 - literally!!! The book was used but was in excellent condition. I was sooo happy with this purchase! Best purchase I have ever made on Amazon! This book had no marks and no highlighting. It did have a few page earmarks, but who cares. The cover was in good condition. Couldn't have asked for a better book!
This is an excellent book. Every single type of drug is discussed and broken down. I could not be happier with these authors. They did an excellent job in explaining so much material in very lament terms. I learned a lot in using this book.
Best and most useful course I took. Have two degrees and I took this course at a community college as a side course and it was a great informative class and text.
This is a textbook and a poor one. The tone of the author goes from very casual and almost drug culture enthusiast to dry and scientific. There are many references to "anecdotes" that don't have footnotes. Not recommended.
Excellent textbook students pursuing counseling or health care service field. Excellent general information and foundation to start up an advance field of study. An excellent book for general reading fore anyone interested to pursue addiction counseling for drugs and alcohol. Recommended for a great reference all in one text. Excellent highly recommended.
This book was a very easy read. I took this class in the summer and had to read most of th chapters on my own because summer semesters are very short. Interesting information. I will be keeping as a reference tool.
